Screening for Plagiarism

Meteor STIP Marunda is committed to upholding academic integrity. All submitted manuscripts are screened for similarity before being sent for peer review.

Screening procedure

  • Every manuscript is checked using Turnitin during the initial editorial screening.
  • Manuscripts with an overall similarity index above 20%, or with more than 3% similarity to any single source, are returned to the authors for revision or rejected. The bibliography, quotations, and small matches are excluded from the calculation.
  • The editor reviews the similarity report manually, since a low percentage does not always mean the absence of plagiarism, and a higher percentage may be caused by properly cited material or standard terminology.
  • Manuscripts may be screened again after revision and before publication.

Forms of plagiarism
The journal considers the following to be plagiarism:

  • Copying text, data, figures, or ideas from another source without proper citation;
  • Paraphrasing another author’s work closely without acknowledgment;
  • Self-plagiarism, including reusing substantial parts of the author’s own previously published work without citation;
  • Duplicate or redundant publication, that is, submitting a manuscript that has already been published or is under review elsewhere.

Citation and quotation
Any idea, data, or specific information taken from another source must be cited. When the original words of another author are used, they must be placed in quotation marks and cited.

Handling of plagiarism

  • Before publication: the manuscript is returned to the authors for correction, or rejected if the plagiarism is substantial.
  • After publication: the case is investigated by the editors following the COPE guidelines. Depending on its severity, the journal may publish a correction or retract the article, as described in the Correction and Retraction policy.

Authors are responsible for the originality of their work. By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the work is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration by another journal.
