Bibliometric Analysis of Watchkeeping Onboard Ships Using Software VOSviewer

Abstract

This article aims to conduct bibliometric research on ship crew members who carry out watchkeeping duties on board ships, identifying and analyzing research gaps in watchkeeping studies. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, employing data visualization to describe the findings. The keyword selected was "watchkeeping." Data were collected from Scopus-indexed journal publications using Publish or Perish (PoP) and compiled using Mendeley, after which the data were input into VOSviewer for analysis. The Publish or Perish search identified 200 articles on the topic of watchkeeping published between 1960 and 2023. Subsequent data processing with VOSviewer produced results based on keywords, which were divided into six clusters. Overall, the bibliometric analysis on the topic of watchkeeping provides important insights that will help researchers, practitioners, and policymakers understand the increasingly dynamic and evolving developments in this field.
